More about invisible braces

If you are considering having invisible braces put on in Barcelona, as experts in the field we try to answer common questions about the Invisalign system.

Is the Invisalign treatment painful?

Some people may experience temporary, mild discomfort during the first days at the start of each new treatment stage when a new aligner is put in. This is normal and is usually described as a feeling of pressure. It is a sign that the aligners are working properly, moving your teeth gradually and helping you achieve the desired final result. This discomfort usually goes away in a couple of days

Are there any dental conditions that automatically exclude someone from being treated with Invisalign?

Only your orthodontic specialist can determine whether you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatment.

Are bridges a factor to consider in Invisalign treatment?

Because bridges firmly link two or more teeth together, they offer significant resistance to teeth movement. Your orthodontist can determine whether bridges will be a factor to consider in your treatment.

Are crowns a factor to consider in Invisalign treatment?

Crowns (or tooth caps) are not usually a factor to consider in Invisalign treatment. However, sometimes small tooth-coloured composites called "attachments" can be bonded onto teeth to help achieve certain movements and they are harder to bond on crowns than teeth. In these cases, the location of crowns must be carefully evaluated.

Can Invisalign close gaps?

Yes. Spaces between teeth are generally easy to close with Invisalign.

Will the state of the temporomandibular joint affect the Invisalign treatment?

The temporomandibular joint refers to the jaw joint. People with temporomandibular joint disorders can have a number of problems in this joint, some of which can be aggravated by appliances and treatments like Invisalign, while others can improve, not change or even cause the condition to deteriorate. To find out whether your TMJ problem may negatively impact treatment, consult your orthodontic specialist.

Will I have to use a retainer following Invisalign treatment?

Wearing a retainer after any orthodontic treatment is an important phase, because it keeps teeth stable in their new positions. If you want your teeth to remain in their ideal position, it is best to wear a retainer.
