Questions about Invisalign

In this article, our experts in Invisalign invisible braces conclude the series of questions and answers about this new, invisible method of orthodontics in Barcelona.

My teeth have moved since I had my braces removed. Can Invisalign correct this?

Many Invisalign patients were subject to a treatment involving braces at some previous point, often during their youth. Invisalign can normally correct the movement that occurs after braces are removed, commonly referred to as a relapse.

I am wearing braces right now. Can I change to Invisalign?

There are a large number of patients being treated with braces and Invisalign at the same time.

Is there any kind of restriction on what I can eat during treatment?

No. Unlike traditional fixed appliances with wires and brackets, you can eat what you like while in treatment because you remove your aligners to eat and drink. It is therefore not necessary to restrict the consumption any of your favourite meals. Furthermore, it’s important to brush and floss your teeth after each meal and before you put your aligners back in to maintain proper hygiene.

How often must the invisible aligners be worn?

They should be worn all the time during treatment, except when eating, brushing or flossing your teeth.

Will the invisible aligners affect the way I speak?

The vast majority of patients say it doesn’t affect the way they speak. However, as with traditional orthodontic appliances, there is an initial adjustment period because you have something new in your mouth.

Can I smoke when I’m wearing the aligners?

Smoking is discouraged because it is possible for the aligners to become stained or discoloured.

Can I chew gum while I’m wearing the aligners?

Chewing gum while wearing invisible aligners is not advised as gum can stick to them. It is recommended that aligners be removed every time you eat something.

What is the best way to clean the aligners?

The best way to clean the aligners is by brushing and rinsing them in lukewarm water or using special cleaning tablets. It’s important to brush your teeth after each meal and before you put your aligners back in to maintain proper hygiene.
