Teeth whitening and smokers

Today we’ll discuss one of these factors that we deal with at our dental clinic in Barcelona.
Many of our clients who request an appointment for teeth whitening are smokers, since nicotine is one of the main causes of discolored teeth.
Are teeth whitening and tobacco compatible?
If you are a smoker and want to whiten your teeth you should keep in mind that avoiding or limiting tobacco use, as well as avoiding foods with dyes, is recommended for the first 48 hours after treatment.
What restrictions are there after getting your teeth whitened?
This is the question most often asked by anyone who receives information about teeth whitening or who has made an appointment for treatment.
The teeth are more sensitive to dyes post-treatment and we recommend a “white” diet for the week following treatment. This type of diet avoids foods with dyes, including coffee, tea, red wine, colored drinks, spinach, and soy sauce.
The treatment can last up to two years, as long as good oral habits are followed and toothpastes that have colored dyes that can stain the teeth are avoided.
